Adorable Noisy BLABBY doll Squawks when you Squeeze her! BLABBY by Uneeda 1962. Blonde Character Doll
Blabby is one of the most popular babydolls that Uneeda made. Everyone who meets Blabby has to laugh at her goofy expression and the way she squawks when you squeeze her.
Blabby is all soft-vinyl and is 16 inches long. She has dark brown hair that is all there and no bald spots. She is wearing a cute little bedjacket and matching panties that were originally made for some Berenguer dolls.
Blabby's vinyl body is mottled peach and cream. There are no odors, she's not musty or moldy. I think the vinyl color is fading or changing, which is not unusual for these old dolls. Her arms and legs are made of harder vinyl which has retained its color better.
Blabby has what looks like a small crack in the corner of the mouth: this is NOT a flaw, it is molded into the doll. All Blabby dolls have the same feature. This little crack is what makes it possible for Blabby to open her mouth.
Blabby is similar to Horsman's Tuffy doll from the same era. Tuffy is another character doll. Blabby's head is larger; otherwise the bodies of the two dolls are very similar in size, and their unusual feet are almost identical.
During the 1950's and 1960's, Uneeda made beautiful, quality dolls that rivaled anything made by Horsman or Ideal.
Uneeda was very creative: they did some daring, original things with dolls that nobody else tried to do. This charming and delightful Blabby doll is a good example of Uneeda's willingness to try just about anything. She's not beautiful but Blabby is certainly very cute and endearing. Baby Boomer kids loved Blabby! And she continues to be very popular with collectors today.
