Sunny Doll 1964 - Purdy's Baby Sister - Purdy's Outfit - 15" Uneeda
This is a very rare 1960's all-vinyl SUNNY babydoll. This doll wasn't played with much, because her hair is soft and silky, like new.
I had an all original Sunny at one time, which came with the box. Sunny is a happy baby and her box described her like this:
She's happy and glad!
The doll with the Sunny disposition!
She giggles too!
Her face changes!
So lovable and cute!
The original hangtag explained even more:
Squeeze the doll on her tummy (not on her chest)
Squeeze rapidly and release
You will see your Sunny Face doll grin and hear her giggle.
Actually, this doll doesn't giggle: she sounds more like a squawk, which reminds me of the Blabby dolls.
Sunny was apparently produced later than the popular PURDY doll. The two are very similar. Purdy also has squeeze mechanism, which makes her pout. Purdy was a crybaby and Sunny is her happy alter-ego. Purdy was introduced around the same time as Baby Dollikin, in 1958. Sunny was offered in 1964.
Sunny is made of very good quality soft vinyl, jointed at hips and shoulders. She is wearing an original knitted Uneeda outfit that belonged to her sister Purdy.
Sunny has rooted white-blonde hair. Her blue eyes are inset with vinyl molded lashes. She is approximately 15 inches long. She is made of all soft vinyl. Sunny is jointed at shoulders and hips. Her head does not turn, due to the mechanism inside.
