Mask-Face Toodles in Red Gingham - Vintage Uneeda
This is a cute mask-face doll in good condition. I don't think she was played with. She's not pristine, hands and face may need a wipedown but the cloth body looks fairly clean. The Toodles letters have grayed. The dress can be removed for washing. The bonnet is a permanent fixture. She has some ginger blonde hair peeping out from the bonnet.
It's hard to determine the vintage for this doll. I haven't seen another like her. She has the donut snap on the back of the dress, which was typical of Uneeda for many years and aids in Identification but not when she was made. She also has a tushy-tag which says Uneeda but no date on it. My own guess is this is a 1960's or 70's babydoll. (Mask-face dolls were popular in the 40's and 50's as Carnival Dolls and Bed Dolls so she might go back that far?)
The tushy-tag is crumpled but clean so I think this doll sat around doing nothing much for the past 50-60 years. She's a cutie with a very pleasant smile. This cloth-stuffed doll is 19 inches tall, so she's a very nice cuddly-soft armful for a small girl.
