Coquette - Her Majesty Doll in awesome Furga type gown Uneeda
Coquette was originally introduced in 1962 and became one of Uneeda's own unique character dolls for the next 20 years. She was sold under many names, but since she was introduced as Coquette (the doll with the continental flair) I have always referred to this face as the Coquette face. She is distinctive because of the slightly slanted French coquettish eyes and a little dimple on her chin.
This doll was manufactured in 1969. Coquette was made in several sizes including a 32 inch walker, but the most common size by far is this 16 inch size. She is jointed at neck, shoulders and hips. Head and arms are viny; the body and legs are plastic.
This is the most elaborate Coquette that I have seen. Her fabulous pink taffeta gown has a matching bonnet. Underneath is a short hoop skirt to hold the skirt out full. She has lace trimmed pantaloons. Coquette Her Majesty is also holding a faux umbrella that matches her gown. The doll has especially pretty gray-green eyes with long lashes and blue eyeshadow. Her fabulous white-blonde hair is very striking; always my favorite color on Coquette.
The gown reminds me of the Furga dolls of the same 1960's era, and I wonder if Uneeda was aiming for a similar ultra-stylish Victorian look. I don't know why Uneeda named the doll HER MAJESTY, but they offered royalty dolls off and on for many years.
The box is large and shows some wear but is still in great shape for it's age. The plastic cover is very yellowed but is still in one piece and has protected the doll from dirt fairly well.
