1940's All Original BabySkin Doll - Old Rose Organza Gown - Uneeda Tag.
This is an antique darling from the 1940's or possibly the early 1950's. She has a hard plastic head and a soft, silky latex body. These dolls were not very durable as playdolls so it's amazing to find one in such incredibly good condition. Her latex body is still supple and in one piece. The clothing is very clean and still very stiff and starchy.
She has her original Uneeda hangtag, which says that she is a "Baby-Skin" doll: this refers to the latex body which is soft, washable and feels like a real baby. (Other doll companies called it Fairyskin.) She is 16-17 inches long. She has her original hangtag; otherwise the doll is unmarked.
She has molded hair and beautiful brown eyes that sleep. She is wearing an rose-pink organza gown with matching bonnet, plus a slip and bloomers. Her matching pink shoes and silky socks are original.
Two little problems: the paint under her mouth has lifted a little, but you can see by the photos that it doesn't mar her pretty face. And there are two or three small holes in the organza gown, possibly from moths.
Please NOTE: to maintain old latex dolls you can rub them with a little baby oil once a year, which will keep the latex soft and supple. Also, be sure to support the head and body carefully, as you would a real baby. These dolls are not recommended for play dolls.
