Baby Dollikin
Baby Dollikin 21 inches JOINTED Babydoll. Our sweet Baby Dollikin! She is always our favorite vintage babydoll because she's such a beauty: sweet, pleasant face with small dimples beside her big pretty eyes. Her little rosebud mouth is smiling and her whole attitude is that of a happy, charming baby. She is tall and somewhat slender for her size, so Baby Dollikin can be very elegant if you dress her in fancy frou frou gowns. Their original outfits, though, were pajamas in various colors and styles. The original Baby Dollikin box resembled an old-fashioned playpen with bars painted on the sides (and the box was nearly as big as a playpen!) Baby Dollikin was introduced the same year as Dewdrop, Purty and Baby Go-Go (a crawling babydoll): which was probably 1958 or 1959. Dewdrop looks a lot like Baby Dollikin because she has the same pretty face, but Dewdrop's all-vinyl body has normal doll joints. Dewdrop was a drink-wet-tears doll (to compete with Tiny Tears and Betsy Wetsy.) But Baby Dollikin was totally unique and none of the other doll companies made anything like her! She does drink and wet. She has special joints at neck, shoulders, hips, elbows, knees and even the wrists. The neck, shoulders and hips are held on with special spring joints (which are difficult to fix if the springs ever get sprung.) The elbows and knees are hinged with metal hinges: certainly an unusual arrangement! The vinyl hands are inserted in the vinyl wrist so they can turn. Because the doll has a lot of metal in it's joints, the joints can get rusty - and almost all the Baby Dollikin dolls have at least some rust due to their age. The rusty marks can usually be wiped off with very little staining on the vinyl. Be careful not to soak the doll in water if you clean her. Baby Dollikin came with various haircolors (blonde, white-blonde, brunette and redhead). Hair is rooted, and her eyes were good quality because they almost always stay very bright and sparkly.
