Furga Chubby Tot Continental Beauty With 1960's Designer Fashion Dress -- This cutie-pie is a vintage Furga Doll, most likely made in the 1960s. She is very similar to some Jolly Toy dolls with the same body style. I don't know who designed them FIRST, but I suspect it was Furga who came up with these chubby cuties initially. The dolls are approximately 15 inches tall. They are chubby toddler tots, similar to Berenguer's Baby Steps dolls if you're familiar with those. This Furga cutie has slanted eyes for an exotic continental appearance. (Uneeda's French Coquette doll also had the continental eyes.) This Furga doll has rooted hair, real lashes, bright blue eyes. She has a cutewatermelon-style mouth which is similar to popular dolls such as Eff. Gumdrop or American Character Butterball. Miss Continental is made of all soft vinyl, heavy quality, which has been painted by the manufacturer for a rich skin tone. She is almost like new. Her silver platinum hair is shaped in a short layered hairstyle, with long braids on each side. The dress this doll is wearing is interesting because it mimics some of the Christian Dior fashions of the time, which also helps to date this doll to the early 1960's. (A friend of mine who has studied fashion explained this to me.) So I searched and I did find Dior fashions that were similar. The dress that Furga doll is wearing is a navy-blue houndstooth, but it's so dark I thought it was black until I ironed the dress under bright light. Her shoes & socks are new and the dress original.
